Let’s Talk Metallic Markers — and 7 Makes I Made with Them

 Hi friends!

I’ve been completely hooked on metallic markers lately. There’s just something about that shimmer, the way the colors catch the light—it makes everything feel a little more magical. So I thought I’d share a little peek into my creative world and show you seven cards I made using metallics, stamps, and masks.

Each one is different—some are playful, some are elegant, and some are just me having fun with color and texture. But they all have one thing in common: metallic markers were the stars of the show.

Why I Love Metallic Markers

• They shimmer beautifully – Even the simplest design looks special when it sparkles.
• They blend like a dream – You can layer colors, create gradients, and play with depth.
• They pop on dark paper – Seriously, try them on black or deep brown backgrounds.
• They’re perfect for details – Outlines, lettering, little accents—they do it all.
• They make your art feel alive – There’s movement, light, and emotion in every stroke.

A Little About the Cards

Let me walk you through the seven pieces I created—each one has its own vibe, its own story, and its own little spark.

  • Messy Desk, Inky Fingers, Peace Inside – This one’s actually a poster, and it’s all about embracing the beautiful mess of creativity. I played with bold lettering styles and added splashes of color using metallic markers. To get that soft, blended look, I used a bit of water—it helped the inks flow and mix in such a satisfying way. It’s chaotic, expressive, and totally me.

  • Merry Christmas Wreath – This festive card was drawn entirely by hand—no stamps at all! I sketched the wreath with green leaves and red berries, then added golden dots to give it that twinkling, holiday sparkle. The “Merry Christmas” lettering in warm golden brings everything together. It’s cozy, cheerful, and full of handmade charm.

  • GOOD Luck in Color – This one’s all about energy and positivity. I used the stippling method—tiny dots of color—to blend the rainbow gradient and give it texture. The black background makes the colors pop, and the gold frame adds a polished finish. It’s bold, bright, and full of good vibes.

  • Thank You Mosaic – A vibrant thank-you card with a patchwork feel. I actually die-cut the mosaic shape, temporarily stuck it down, and then colored it in with metallic markers. Once I peeled it off, the pattern revealed itself. The scalloped edge and dark background add contrast, and the gold “Thank You” sentiment gives it a touch of elegance.

  • Thank You Coneflowers – This one’s softer and more botanical. I used metallic markers as ink for the stamp, adding a bit of water before stamping to get that soft, watercolor effect. Then I layered a bold, die-cut “Thank You” on top for a 3D finish. The gradient background adds depth, and the whole card feels calm and graceful.

  • Hoping to SEA You Soon – A playful ocean-themed card that makes me smile every time I look at it. For this one, I used markers on acetate to color the sea creatures and create a see-through effect. I stamped the whale, seal, and fish, added bubbles, and finished it off with a punny banner message. It’s lighthearted, fun, and perfect for sending a little love across the waves.

  • Shine Like Stars – A dreamy, celestial piece with a blended background of blues, purples, and greens. I used metallic markers with water to create the soft, flowing sky, then added gold stars with a golden marker. The bold label with “SHINE LIKE STARS” ties it all together. It’s a reminder to embrace your light and let it shine.

Each card was made using a mix of metallic markers, stamps, and masks, and a few inky fingers (lol). I worked with colors like green, blue, purple, gold, turquoise, and more. Some backgrounds were carefully blended, others were stamped, and a few just came together naturally while I explored different techniques. That’s what I love most—letting the process lead the way.

My Go-To Tips for Metallic Markers

• Use dark backgrounds – Metallics really pop against black, navy, or deep brown.
• Layer while wetYou’ll get smoother blends and richer color.
• Mix with matte inks – It creates contrast and makes the metallics stand out even more.
• Don’t overthink itSometimes the best results come from just playing and seeing what happens.

Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me share these with you. I hope they inspire you to grab your markers, get a little messy, and make something that shines.

Until next time,
Natalia Kuzak
